Study Design: Literature review.
Objectives: To offer a detailed evaluation of the cervical spine, emphasizing the integration of the patient's history and a physical examination for effective diagnosis and treatment.
Summary of Literature Review: Cervical radiculopathy results in varied sensory, muscular, and reflexive changes, primarily originating from the neck and extending to the head, upper limbs, and thorax. Mechanical compression, along with factors like inflammation and vascular elements around the cervical nerve root, contribute to its onset. A precise diagnosis necessitates distinguishing it from other musculoskeletal, neurological, and various other conditions.
Materials and Methods: This research compiled recent literature on the cervical nerve root¡¯s anatomy, clinical symptoms of cervical radiculopathy, imaging outcomes, and the differential diagnosis for an in-depth analysis.
Results: Cervical radiculopathy presents with varying pain intensities and neurological anomalies in the neck, occipital region, and impacted upper limbs, often linked to cervical motion. A thorough patient interview, past medical history review, and comprehensive physical examination are crucial for differentiating it from similar disorders.
Conclusions: During a physical assessment, it is imperative to identify abnormal findings of individual nerve roots. This assists in accurately determining the pathological origins, even in cases with multifocal radiculopathy in imaging results.
